Headache - or cephalgia - commonly means any form of pain that would be felt in one or several of these sensitive areas of the skull.

Headaches can be split into two types: Primary headaches, such as stress headache, cluster headache and migraine headache, which are not associated with any disease; And Secondary headaches which are associated with an illness. What can you use to get rid of headache ?

Headaches are the most common condition of the nervous system. Everyone will be affected by headache at one point , but for 55 million people in the United States, it is a chronic experience. The World Health Organization claims that one adult in 20 suffers from frequent headaches, with females being more at risk than men.

Headaches can be extremely disabling and might be detrimental to the people who have to go through them. Work ability is lessened for these people, which may also negatively affect their economic situation.

The ability to socialize is also limited as the suffering, or the fear thereof, can make people more likely to be upset. People who suffer from migraine even have to always pay attention to the things they eat, the things they see, and last but not least the things they smell, because certain strong or unpleasant sensations may cause pain.

Because headaches are perceived as such an ordinary, minor disease, people who suffer from them on a constant basis also have to face the incomprehension of other people. This social barrier may also hold people back from trying to get medical attention and getting an appropriate treatment. However before it can be treated, a headache has to be "identified".

We have already seen that there were two major categories of headache: Primary and Secondary, each divided in turn into many different subtypes. Their symptoms may change as well as what causes them and, naturally, how they should be cured. That is why they must to be effectively identified by a practitioner in order to receive good treatment.

Stress headache, also referred to as tension headache, is the most typical type of primary headache and accounts for approximately 90% of all headaches. It is traditionally seen as stress-related or related to muscular and skeletal problems in the area of the neck.

Tension headache is usually momentary and may persist from a few minutes to a few hours, but may persist for numerous days in the most acute cases. It is commonly described as a strong steady pressure, most commonly on each side of the head, or encircling it, sometimes also extending to the neck.

Migraine is relatively different and is believed to almost certainly have a genetic origin. Migraines are caused by the release by the brain of painful substances, which spread to the nerves and vessels in the head. Migraine generally happens once a month and lasts for a few hours, with corollary symptoms like nausea and intolerance of normal degrees of light and noise.

Cluster headaches usually happen frequently and are short lasting. They are also very painful. They occur in clusters of 6 to 12 weeks and every one or two years, very often at the same period of the year. The pain is extremely bad and affects the entire head, generally starting in the eye, and then affecting the forehead, nose and mouth. It is much more rare than other sorts of headache and usually affects men.

Headaches are generally cured with over-the-counter pain relievers such as aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol. A physician could also advise to avoid some typical triggers such as noise or certain foods.

Caffeine, Magnesium and Vitamin B2 have also been regarded as useful in order to treat migraine. Drugs however are costly and can have negative side effects, especially for people who must use them on a daily basis. That is why you may want to consider another way of preventing and fighting the various sorts of headache.

Hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) have indeed shown to be working and will help you to dissipate pain anywhere in your body, including your head, as well as trying to be more relaxed meanwhile. Stress is a very common cause of headache, and specific hypnotic techniques exist to dissipate both stress and headaches in a few seconds.

People who suffer from migraine or cluster headache can generally feel the first symptoms before it actually happens, and could learn self-hypnosis techniques to abort them before they become too painful. Hypnotherapists who understand how disabling a headache can be have invented these therapeutic techniques.

Hypnotherapy is a drug free modality and will help you find the relief you have been looking for. Headache is a serious affliction with numerous variations, affecting millions of people throughout the world. Learn to fight it and to relax with the appeasing method of self-hypnosis.

How To Get Rid Of Migraine Headaches Without Aspirin

Migraine headaches can be debilitating. They are by far the most severe headaches you can have. A migraine often starts with light sensitivity and is sometimes accompanied by nausea or vomiting. The severe headache will begin shortly after these symptoms have started. Over the counter medications such as aspirin may do little to help ease the pain. Natural migraine remedies can effectively relieve the severe pain without the side effects of drugs.

As soon as you feel the first symptoms of a migraine attack, drink a caffeinated beverage. While caffeine has been thought to trigger a migraine, once it starts the caffeine will actually help by opening up constricted blood vessels. Make sure you drink plenty water for the duration of the headache. Even mild dehydration can worsen headache symptoms.

A warm shower or bath may help with migraine headache at the onset of the symptoms. If you are not able to take a shower, try putting a cool compress on your head. Sit quietly in a darkened room. This will help ease light or noise sensitivity as well as nausea. A face massage can ease the headache pain and stimulate blood circulation. A warm foot soak is also good for blood circulation.

Some herbal remedies are known to prevent or ease a migraine headache. Dried herbs can be used to make teas or tinctures. Herbal extracts are potent and need to be diluted before use. Capsules come in many herbal combinations and are readily available at most natural or health food stores.

Feverfew - Feverfew contains substances that inhibit the release of mood hormones in the brain. For best results, use fresh feverfew. When this is not available, consume as tea or in capsule form.

Bay - There have been some doctors who recommend taking feverfew with bay to prevent a migraine headache. You can often find a combination of these herbs at most health food stores.

Ginger - Ginger has long been known to relieve and prevent headaches. It is an anti-inflammatory and has substances that help reduce pain. Take in capsule form, according to directions.

Peppermint - Taken internally or used externally, peppermint can help to relieve a migraine headache. To take internally, drink peppermint tea. To use externally, mix several drops of peppermint oil with lotion or body oil and massage into the temples.

In order to prevent a migraine, you need to identify what causes it. Many foods can trigger an attack. These include cheese, chocolate, wheat and caffeine. If you indulge in one of these foods and experience a migraine attack 24 hours later, the food is most likely a migraine trigger. Other triggers include stress, changes in sleeping patterns, hormonal changes and changes in altitude.

Natural migraine remedies can help reduce the length and severity of a migraine headache. Not all natural migraine cures work for everyone, so try various remedies until you find the ones that work best for you. Finally, learn to control the triggers to avoid getting a migraine.

Botox, also known as botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxin (a toxin that attacks nerve cells). It was originally approved by the FDA for use in conditions where hyperactivity of muscles was an underlying problem of related health and medical conditions. The theory is that Botox weakens or paralyzes muscles by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine.

Acetylcholine is an ester of choline that is thought to play an important role in the transmission of nerve impulses at synapses and myoneural (muscle-nerve) junctions. By inhibiting the release of acetylcholine the nerves cannot cause a muscle contraction, thus relaxing the muscle. Botox is administered by being directly injected into the affected muscles.

There are differing theories as to how Botox works to eliminate migraine headaches , but the exact reasoning remains unclear. One theory is that muscle tension and spasms are a cause of migraines and by eliminating the muscle tension with an injection of Botox it will also eliminate the cause of the headaches. If given Botox before the headache begins it is possible to eliminate the headache before it even starts.

When muscles spasm it can irritate nerves that innervate them. When these nerves send signals to the brain in an increased amount it causes pain and possibly headaches. Botox may affect these nerve cells, inhibiting their transmission, causing a lessening of the perception of pain. Many researches think that migraine headaches are a result of inflammation of blood vessels. However, muscle tension may also play an important role in the cause of headaches.

When researchers test a medication’s effectiveness they usually test it through a double-blind study. This means that some patients are given the medication being tested while others are given a placebo.

A placebo is an inactive substance, such as sugar, that is given in place of the medication that is being evaluated. Some tests have been performed that did not involve double-blind studies, but showed that Botox could prevent migraine headaches. One double-blind study involving Botox and headaches showed only a small positive effect.

Initial studies may not have shown the full effectiveness of Botox for the prevention of headaches. The injections were not placed in the typical locations of the headache pain, but in areas normally injected during plastic surgery. In subsequent studies, using larger doses and injecting into more specific localities for the headache pain, the results were improved. These tests were concerning migraine headaches. However, with tension headaches, or muscle tension headaches, the studies have shown improved results. This is to be expected due to the weakening or paralyzing nature of Botox on the muscles that are experiencing tension.

When being injected with Botox for the prevention of headaches it may take several weeks before the injection takes effect. For this reason it is usually necessary to have it injected no more often than once every 3 months or so. People that have Botox administered for the treatment of headaches typically need it injected every few months. If there is too long of an interval between injections the headaches may be experienced by the patient.

However, the question arises about the safety of these regular injections of a neurotoxin. Since 1989, when it was first used as a headache treatment, it has appeared to be fairly safe. Most migraine headache medications are taken orally and eventually end up in the blood stream. Because of this common symptoms of migraine headache medication will be dizziness and drowsiness among other symptoms. Since Botox is injected directly into the muscle tissue and does not get absorbed into the blood system as does the typical headache medicine there are fewer side effects. Most commonly, the only side effects of injecting this neurotoxin is pain in the area of injection for a couple of days or drooping of the eyelids for a few days.

Studies are still being performed on this medication and as yet the FDA has not approved it for the treatment of headaches. However, physicians do prescribe it to their patients and if you think you are a candidate to use it you should discuss it with your doctor. If you do not respond to other headache medications it may be something to talk with your physician about. As the studies continue the effects and safety issues involving this medication should become more clear.

Acupuncture is known as a traditional Chinese medicine. Migraines are often a result of reduced energy and or blood flow causing pain to one or both sides of the head. The reduced blood flow to the brain causes tension and lack of oxygen to the brain. Many migraines start as tension headaches , and grow stronger until they are full-blown migraines.

Acupuncture treats migraines by relieving the tension. This is done by maximizing the blood flow to the brain and giving the brain the oxygen needed. During a 15 to 30 minute acupuncture treatment the brain senses normalization of blood flow, and as seen in numerous treatments the blood vessels will constrict back to their normal size, ending the migraine headache.

Basically acupuncture approaches migraines by reducing vasodilatation, which is where the blood vessels from the brain widen due to the relaxation of the smooth muscles within the vessels wall; since there is now more room for blood your blood pressure drops. The reduction of the vasodilatation gives the brain more blood, which is what the brain needs.

The Chinese believe rather than feeding the brain drugs to help with the pain due to the lack of blood, why not give the brain the blood it needs? Not only does it save you from putting chemicals into your body, but it helps solve the problem and gives the migraine patient the relief from the body’s own constriction of blood vessels.

This approach prevents migraine sufferers from having to deal with the side effects of prescribed medications and reduces chances of reoccurrences of migraines. It is said that 6 to 12 treatments will often result in years free of migraines.

Migraine Care

Trying natural remedies for migraines can often be helpful and much cheaper than buying medication over the counter or going to the doctor for medication. Trying stress relievers before taking medication may help you to find something that is helpful and better for your body.

Taking hot or cold showers with a direct water flow to the area of pain can help relax the muscle tension and relieve you of the migraine often. If the sound of the running water or the pressure of the water flow is too intense, soaking in a luke warm or hot bath with Epsom salt can be helpful. Also try lying down with a wet cloth across your forehead in a dark and quiet room can be very helpful and rid you of your migraine.

Sometimes eating something with starch or sugar can help. Low blood sugar can sometimes trigger a migraine even if you feel that you are not hungry. Try these common solutions before trying over the counter medication or going to the doctor. You may be surprised at how easy it is to rid yourself of the pain naturally.

Treatment And Prevention Of Migraine By Homeopathy

Homeopathic remedies have proven to be very successful in the treatment of migraines as they can reduce both the pain and the sickness, especially if taken in the early stages. Not only can homeopathic remedies be used at the time of a migraine, but treatment from a qualified homeopath can also reduce the likelihood of migraines recurring in the future.

A tendency towards migraines often runs in the family and allergic factors may be involved. However, the most significant trigger of migraines is stress. Serotonin levels are higher in migraine sufferers - serotonin is released when adrenaline levels rise due to stress. These are issues that a homeopath would consider routinely when determining the best way to treat a client with migraine.

Here’s a testimonial from a previous migraine sufferer: "I had been suffering with pressure headaches since contracting glandular fever last year. Things weren’t resolving with traditional medical intervention and on the recommendation of my wife’s friend I started homeopathy consultations. Within the space of a few homeopathic treatments my headaches have resolved and I feel back to my normal, healthy self again."

Lifestyle adjustments

If you suffer from migraines, it is recommended that you to eat regularly, get eight hours sleep per night and avoid adrenal stimulants such as tea, coffee, orange juice and chocolate.

Selecting the best remedy

For relief during a migraine, you can try one of the following four main homeopathic migraine remedies, which are available in leading pharmacies and health food stores. Simply choose the remedy which most closely matches your symptoms:

- Natrum Muriaticum - The migraines headaches are often worse in the morning and you may wake up with a headache migraine or with a warning that you will get one. There is often severe pain in the head as if it would burst. This pain may make you cough or make your eyes water. This is one of the most common migraine headache homeopathic remedies.

- Nux Vomica - Severe headache / migraine with chilliness and vomiting, resulting from over-work or stress. You may feel relief from leaning your head against something (i.e. pressure on the forehead) and you may be more sensitive to noises than normal during the headache / migraine. Being constipated increases the chance that you will suffer a migraine.

- Bryonia - You will have very severe headaches with additional pain over the eyes in some cases. Even simple movements like moving your eyes from one side to the next can worsen your pain. In this case it’s often a good idea to close your eyes. The headaches / migraines often come on after drinking alcohol or from a lot of stress.

- Arsenicum Album - Often the migraines / headaches are relieved in some way from cold applications on the head. If you require this remedy there will often also be digestive disturbances, e.g. vomiting or diarrhea. You may be feeling anxious and / or chilly at the same time.

Bowtech: A New Holistic Therapy

Do you suffer from backache, myalgia, neck syndrome, migraine or allergies? Bowen Technique can cure your condition with only few sessions and without any medicine, by activating the human body’s self healing mechanism.

Bowtech term is an abbreviation of the words "Bowen" and "Technique". It is a holistic vibrational healing therapy which was invented by the Australian physiotherapist Tom Bowen on 1950, while he was trying to find a cure for his wife asthma disease. Tom Bowen used to apply his therapy to injured soldiers of 2nd World War and he generally achieved to relieve pain and treat their contusions. In 1974 the research that had been carried out by Health Ministry of Australia was the cause of Bowtech’s appreciation firstly in Australia and gradually all over the world.

Bowen Technique has a significant difference from the other holistic therapies. Bowtech activates self healing system that every human body is equipped. The therapist with his finger sends messages to body organs and stimulates immunological respond within next hours or days. Other less significant differences between Bowtech and other holistic treatments are:

The therapist touches and "pushes" the body very gently and softly and a result of this Bowtech can be applied even at bad contusions and wounds. The therapist can stimulate every organ of human body and that is why he can promote healing of various conditions, from myalgia to asthma crisis. Although, Bowen Technique has the minor intervention of all holistic therapies, it is the only holistic method which can relief pain instantly.

In order to cure a disease, 4-6 sessions are required, even though we must state that each instance has unique characteristics of tension and difficulty and consequently the therapist must provide the advisable treatment for each condition and patient. Keep in mind that there have been some cases that the patient was fully cured after only one session. If a condition needs more than one session, the patient must wait a week till the next session. This time period is necessary in order body to have the time to start and develop the self healing procedure. Tom Bowen claimed that one therapy session every 2 months can keep us healthy and promote wellbeing.

Bowtech stimulates all organism systems and parts of human body and can promote healing of various diseases. For example, it is beneficial to babies that suffer from collics, while it helps overweight adults who experience backaches. It is proved that Bowtech stimulates muscle, skeletal, respiratory, nervous, lymphatic, circulation, peptic and immune system. As a result, Bowtech is usually used to cure: neck syndrome, headache, migraine, backache, coxalgia, kyphosis, scoliosis, arthritis, myalgia, muscle injury, asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, gynaecological conditions, icterus and collics. Moreover, it can promote quality of life of patients’ who suffer from autoimmune diseases, like disseminated multiple sclerosis, lupus erythematosus and psoriasis type 1.

On the other hand, as we mentioned before, autoimmune conditions are some of the conditions that Bowtech can not totally cure. Additionally, Bowen Technique is ineffective for worn out persons who had many health diseases in the past and unreceptive persons. Bowtech cannot help patient with discontinued tissues (for example, bone fractures or muscle rupture) because the impulse cannot be transmitted to the respective organ or part of human body.

High Blood Pressure Headaches - What You Should Do to Ease the Pressure

High blood pressure or hypertension is very popular amongst Americans, yet it often goes undetected. When the disease is not under control in a timely manner, it has great potential to cause further complications.

Subsequently, the cardiovascular disease does not cause symptoms, therefore making it difficult to detect. During the last stages of hypertension, however, there are several symptoms that may occur. One of the symptoms that you may experience and is widely associated with the disease is the high blood pressure headaches.

Experiencing excruciating headaches is vastly attributed to high blood pressure. It often serves as a warning sign of this serious cardiovascular disorder. Generally, people with high blood pressure suffer with migraine or tension headaches.

The more elevated that your blood pressure climbs, the pain from the headache increases. Physicians often prescribe drugs such as calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers as they both are effective for treating the blood pressure and the actual headache. They are particular used to narrow your blood vessels.

Again, hypertension induces serious pressure problems in the head causing migraine or tension headaches. Extreme pressure placed on the blood vessels stops normal flow of blood from the head which results in localized high blood pressure and headaches.

You may also suffer with facial pain, eye pain and nosebleeds during the process. It may also lead to a feeling of nausea or faint. As there is no specific cure for hypertension headaches, there is several treatment suggestions that medical experts offer to minimize or limit the pain of the migraine.

During the mild stages of headaches, over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin may be effectives. However, over usage of these drugs tend to cause rebound headaches. Ideally, if your blood pressure continues to elevate, the headaches will worsen, therefore you must consider certain prescribed medications.

When symptoms of the painful high blood pressure headaches begin, it is recommended that you rest in a quiet and darkened room. Additionally, you are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. Placing a cool cloth on your head has proven quite effective.

Repeated blood pressure measurements are important in that it provides the necessary information to your physician. Severe blood pressure measurements can cause high blood pressure headaches; solely related to cardiovascular conditions. The migraine and tension headaches are the most common amongst cardiac symptoms. If the symptoms persist, it is strongly recommended that you contact your primary physician immediately.

High blood pressure is a common health problem among people these days. The main reason behind the increasing number of high blood pressure patients is the unhealthy life style, which includes unhealthy food habits as well.
High blood pressure can cause pounding headaches. The headache usual fef ly starts at the back of the head on getting up in the morning. There is a better way. Use Aromatherapy for headache relief to reduce your dependence on drugs and to avoid their risks and side effects.

There are many kinds of headache and many causes but they all have one thing in common. They hurt. Headaches have long fuelled the market for pain medications but all pain medications can harm more than they help if used too frequently. Overuse of pain medication for headaches is so common that it is now considered to be a major cause of chronic headaches. There is a better way. Use Aromatherapy for headache relief to reduce your dependence on drugs and to avoid their risks and side effects.

Types of headache

About 90% of headaches are categorized as primary as there is no underlying medical cause. Secondary headaches are caused by a tumor, infection, an injury or some other medical condition. Although there are many kinds of primary headaches, the most common ones are classified either as tension-type headaches or migraines.

The tension-type headache

Tension-type headaches are by far the most prevalent with about 3 in 4 persons suffering at least one significant headache a year. About 55% of sufferers are women. The pain is typically mild to moderately intense although occasionally it may be severe. It occurs on both sides of the head but it may even involve the front and the back as well. It tends to be a steady, pressing kind of pain.

Unlike migraines, tension-type headaches are not worsened by physical activity, so we absorb their impact and keep on going. But they certainly take the shine out of life. Usually the headache is accompanied by a tightness of the muscles in the neck and shoulders, a loss of appetite, difficulty in concentrating, trouble sleeping and irritability.

The frequency and duration of tension-type headaches is quite variable. They may be over in a few minutes or last for more than a week. They typically last between 4 and 6 hours. Headaches are considered to be chronic if they occur on more than 15 days in a month for at least six consecutive months. Chronic headaches are a serious health problem because they are difficult to treat and can persist for years.

Headache triggers

Research has not unraveled the exact cause of tension-type headaches but certain triggers are well known. The most common are emotional or psychological stress, muscle strain in the neck and back caused by poor posture, eye strain caused by tired, dry eyes, sleep deprivation, jetlag, and hunger from irregular or missed meals. With our modern, fast paced, over-committed life styles, we are all prone to experience these triggers.

Seeking professional medical help

The majority of headache sufferers do not consult their doctor but there are times when it is clearly the responsible thing to do. If you begin to experience headaches with no apparent reason, your doctor should investigate the cause. If your headaches are severe and sometimes debilitating you need profession help. If you suffer chronic headaches, you need advice on how to cope with the higher risks of medication side effects and medication overuse headaches.

Painkillers, side effects and rebound headaches

Most tension-type headaches are treated with analgesics, which are a class of drugs used to relieve pain. The main analgesics include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ASA and ibuprofen; acetaminophen; and narcotics. These drugs are effective in relieving the pain of tension-type headaches but all carry the risk of serious side effects and lead to rebound headaches if used excessively or too frequently.

Taking pain medication for more than fifteen days a month is considered to be overusing the medication. In this situation rebound headaches, which are now called medication overuse headaches, are quite likely to occur. Your body adapts to the medication and when you try to reduce or eliminate your usual dosage an MOH is triggered which may be more severe than the original headache condition. The normal response is to take more pain medication for the headache. This cycle repeats and insidiously your frequent headaches have transformed into chronic daily headaches and you are dependent on the medication. You must stop taking the medication in order to stop the overuse headaches.

If you suffer from chronic headaches, your risk of MOH is high. You experience headaches more frequently than can be treated safely with pain medication.

Aromatherapy - an alternative to drugs

Aromatherapy can be used effectively to complement or even replace pain medication. Your goal should be to use the least amount of drugs and use them as seldom as possible.

Tension-type headaches are effectively relieved with a number of analgesic essential oils and two of the best are Lavender and Peppermint. Either may be used separately or they may be mixed in equal proportions, as many find the blend to be more effective.

Lavender essential oil is relaxing and when used at bedtime helps to promote sleep which is normally difficult with a headache. Peppermint is stimulating and when used alone or blended with Lavender will help to overcome fatigue and lethargy. It will also alleviate upset stomach and nausea and help to restore your appetite. Rosemary is another good choice as it will help improve your ability to concentrate while relieving the headache pain.

There are several ways to administer these essential oils but two of the most convenient are with the use of a personal inhaler or by rubbing a few drops of oil blended with carrier oil on the temples and back of the neck.

Headaches that are caused by stiff muscles in the neck and shoulders can be treated with a massage using Marjoram essential oil. Marjoram is a vasodilator and it will relax the muscles and increase blood flow to the brain.

Preventing tension-type headaches

For most of us, tension-type headaches are triggered by the stresses and demands of a hectic life. Changing your lifestyle will not only reduce the frequency of headaches but will improve the quality of your life as well.

Be more conscious of your health. Strive to maintain regular patterns for eating and sleeping and maintain a regimen of moderate exercise. Stay within your limits, don’t over commit, and set aside time for relaxation. Meditation and Aromatherapy can help. Identify your headache triggers and endeavor to avoid them or lessen their effect on you.

When you feel the onset of a headache, use Aromatherapy to alleviate the pain and relax you. Take pain medication only as a last resort.

Feverfew An Herb To Stop Migraine Headaches

The herb Feverfew has shown some surprisingly good results for migraine sufferers. Growing the Feverfew herb or taking an herbal supplement seems to help with fewer migraines with less pain.

The Feverfew herb is a member of the daisy family. Feverfew has instilled new hope for fewer and milder migraine headaches . In ancient Greece the herb Feverfew was used to reduce swelling and for women’s menstrual distress. The herbs name is a Latin derivative meaning to chase away fevers. You may even say it was the aspirin of the eighteenth century. It was used to treat fevers, menstrual and rheumatic pain. Herbalists stopped using the herb for a few hundred years, but now the herb Feverfew is being used to combat migraine headaches.

The plant grows to about two feet high and it is a perennial. The leaves are doubly divided and have a tooth like edge. The flower will look very much like a daisy with white petals and a yellow center. Feverfew requires lots of sun and good drainage; it is very easy to grow and is considered a weed.

There was a time when the whole plant was used medicinally, now only the leaves of the Feverfew are used. It is best to harvest the herb before the plant flowers. Pick the leaves and either dry them or freeze them. The Feverfew leaves will have a strong, bitter, and aromatic scent.

Migraines are still a mystery to the medical and holistic community. But there have been many studies done on the herb Feverfew. Over aggregating of platelets in the blood appear just before a migraine forcing a release of serotonin. Serotonin causes the blood vessel to dilate. Feverfew, or more correctly the parthenolide contained in it, will stop over-aggregating keeping the blood vessel normal resulting in less painful, less frequent or cessation of migraines.

After many studies the compound in Feverfew is parthenolide which inhibits the brains chemicals that dilate blood vessels. Use three to four leaves to make an herbal tea. The leaves have a bitter taste so you might want to stir a little honey in the tea. You could also make a tincture using 1-2 teaspoons daily. There are no side effects except some people said that chewing on the leaves gave them mouth sores.

If your migraines are chronic you need to find what is triggering them. Keep a migraine diary and write everything you did on each day. Record what you ate, how you slept, even what you smelled and how you feel. Compare the days when you did not have a migraine to the ones when you did have one. Compare several days together. You should be able to tell what is affecting you before an onslaught of the migraine.

If you don’t want to grow the herb, there are herbal compounds available. There are a few things that are crucial when buying a herbal supplement with Feverfew. First, try to get a product that has about .7% of parthenolide, remember this is what makes feverfew effective against migraine headaches. Many Feverfew supplements have varying amounts of parthenolide, .7% is good amount. Two other components should be in the tablet.

Riboflavin, or Vitamin B-2, keeps your co enzymes stable, they are necessary for keeping your brain functioning well. There are studies being done to see if Riboflavin could be used on it’s own to treat migraines, but it seems to be more effective with the other two ingredients.

Magnesium is the third ingredient that you should find in the supplement. In many of the studies of it is showing to be a critical component for people who suffer from migraine headaches. Without magnesium, in your body you will lack sleep, develop stomach pain, shorten you breath or make you feel weak. It has been shown to lessen migraine pain.

There is one product that I have seen recommended time after time and that is MigreLief. I do not work with that company and get no financial gain by mentioning them in this article. You can find it in health food stores and on the internet.

This migraine therapy must be done daily and will take at least four weeks for you to see a difference. Isn’t worth four weeks worth it to lessen and perhaps eliminate migraine pain ? It may take up to three months to see a serious benefit for you and to get rid of those awful migraine headaches. Do some research on the herb Feverfew; you’ll be glad you did.

There is no pain worse than that of a severe headache. Absolutely nobody is spared headaches. Infants to children to the young to the very old, everyone suffers from headaches at some time or the other for a variety of reasons.

Types of headaches can be divided into two categories - Primary and Secondary. There are many types of headaches, but the most common are tension-type headache, migraine, and cluster headache which all fall under the Primary Headache category. A sinus headache falls into the Secondary Headache category.

  Symptoms of a Sinus Headache

Whenever your sinuses get congested due to mucus, what follows will be a dull yet throbbing pain in the head. The most common reason for your nose getting blocked with mucus is nothing but the ‘Common Cold’. A sinus headache will usually occur when the temperature drops down to very low levels, or a sudden change in weather.

Wondering how a common cold can lead a very normal person to suffer from a throbbing headache? When you have a cold mucus keeps building up and will block your sinuses. Sinuses are the cavities that are located just below the cheekbones. This blockage leads to a swelling which in turn is the cause of the headache.

A sinus headache can be very annoying, because to begin with you will usually have a cold accompanied with watery eyes and a bloated face. The headache just makes the cold more miserable.

  Sinus Headache Remedy

When a sinus headache is severe what most would do is to take some form of medication for a headache. This will usually relieve the pain and make one feel better for some time, but the headache will come back very soon because the headache, and not the cause of the headache was treated.
Medication to cure a sinus headache must be aimed at normalizing the sinus along with something to reduce the headache. Once your sinus problem is solved the headache will go away. Prescribed medication usually consists of a nasal spray to reduce inflammation, pain relieving medication such as aspirin or ibuprofen, and in a bad case of sinus congestion, analgesics containing caffeine may be prescribed.

Many people feel a relief both in breathing and the headache when a cold relieving balm is applied to the chest, nose, and forehead. The balm helps to temporarily clear the blockage and provide relief.

When a bacterial infection is found to be the cause, your physician will prescribe antibiotics. The duration of medication can be very depressing to many, because the antibiotics not only kill the bacteria, but also your appetite. Antibiotics even though very unpleasant are the fastest way to recovery.

In some cases where the sinus headaches are caused due to structural reasons, a surgery could be required. A surgery is advised only after all other resources have been exhausted. The surgery will be performed by an otolaryngologist, more commonly known as an ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist.

Minimizing the Risk of Sinus Headache

You can reduce the risk of getting a sinus headache.

Follow instructions while using a nasal spray. Do not overuse it. Overuse of nasal sprays will lead to a condition known as rebound congestion, obstructing your breathing and causing a more severe case of headache.

The moment you notice that you are getting a cold and your sinuses are getting blocked, use a decongestant, and take an over the counter antihistamine and a painkiller. This should help cure the problem before it gets chronic. If the symptoms remain the same or increase over a couple of days, stop the medication and consult your physician. The cause could be something else.

Drinking a lot of water (preferably warm) helps keep the mucus runny. Allowing it to thicken will block the sinuses and trigger the headache.

In most of the cases a sinus headache is not a regular feature. It comes with a sudden change in weather and goes away as quickly. If you suffer from constant sinus headaches, you must get professional advice. Visit your physician and explain the symptoms. It could be something that can be permanently cured with medication, or in rare cases may require surgery.

Whatever the symptom and the cure, it is always a welcome relief to get rid of a sinus headache.
